Overview of Munsiyari

Munsiyari is a place where nature pertains to rule the surroundings and its thick vegetation which is dominated by stands of Pine, Rhododendrons and Deodar speaks the volume. Beside that numerous streams and waterfalls that adds to its scenic location caters the nature in terrestrial way.

Munsiyari and its affair which is nestled within an estuary of River Goriganga on the ancient salt route makes it affluent as its river course provides all the necessary elements for surrounding vegetation to make the town look green as meadows.

 

The people living here belong to the community of Schedule tribe name Shaukas and it is believed that they were here ever since the time of colonization which in turn has made Shaukas prime resident of this serene area.

According to legends Shuakas were traders of salt and during the phase of salt commercialization they used to walk till Tibet to bring the salt and trading of salt was the only commercial line of entire Himalaya till 1962.

When it comes to the religious aspect than they worship Nanda Devi and the temple which is solely dedicated to solemnized the deeds of Nanda Devi speaks the religious value of her presence.  Traveler while coming here can look to visit the temple which is located at a distance of around 3 km from Munsiyari.
