Kasauli is a peaceful little hill station, located at a
height of around 1,927 m above sea level. The town is at a distance of around
77 km from Shimla and around 70 km from Chandigarh.
A few friends of mine had accompanied me along the trip
to this place on a summer vacation. We decide to reach this place by renting a
car along from the New Delhi Railway station. We had decided to visit Kasauli
at the last moment and quite ensure about the choice we had made as we didn’t
have much idea about this place.
A friend from our group had referred this place as he had
visited this place earlier and considered it as a picture perfect hill station.
He had also stated that the area was also not large enough to have hard time in
exploring its splendours within the proposed duration of our holiday. Moreover,
as I reached the place, I found the place to be not that small as we had
assumed it to be.
After a little observation, I also found out that most of
Kasauli can be explored on foot as most its chief attractions were located
between the market at Mall Road and Monkey Pointcan be negotiated by foot as
it's all situated between the market at Mall Road and Monkey Point. From Monkey
Point, we could view the scenic view of the neighbouring plains of Chandigarh
region and the Sutlej River, which seems like a silver ribbon aligned through
the hill.
The hill featured a series of slopes which seemed like
the terraced slopes of a tea plantation. As we ventured to the top of the hill,
we experienced a cool welcoming breeze and witnessed a massive idol of Lord
Hanuman. The location had a spiritual aura because of presence of the idol of
the monkey God at the summit of the hill.
As we explored this small tranquil town, we found that it
had well preserved the colonial aura as the place had developed and flourished
under the British rule. Till date, the place still holds the influence of the
British era in its paved paths, ethnic shops, colonial houses and series of
well maintained gardens and orchards.
Kasauli is a beautiful location with its clean streets,
which are lined with tall deodars, lush green forests and other natural wonders
including wild flowers, roses, and rhododendrons, which are found in plenty at
this place.
An old looking church caught my attention as walking
through the town. Its compound was bordered by a barbed fenced wire and with
its location at the corner of a street, the church seemed quite isolated.
At a close distance from the church, I came before an old
antique shop, which unfortunately was closed on Sunday.
As regarding the accommodation, I stayed in a budget
hotel in Kasauli as I had not made any advance booking which led to
unavailability of already booked Hotel Ros Common and Hotel Alasia. After
checking into this budget hotel, it occurred in my mind that I could have also
opted for either the PWD rest house or the Hotel Maurice.
