Changthang is the land of the nomads of Tibetan descendents
that is the Chang-Pas, which is situated on the Chinese border that is to the
east of Leh.
Even today the people of Changthang wander around with their livestock and live like nomads and they deal with trades of meat, Pashima, wool, cheese, butter etc and do vegetation of Barley and Peas in summers. Rupsho valley is the other name of Changthang. Once in Changthang do not miss a chance to visit Pangong, Tsomoriri and Tsokar lakes as these lakes provide a spectacular view accompanied by rare animals and birds.

Pangong
Lake: Besides
having a length of 140 kms and a width of 7 kms, this lake is situated on an
altitude of 4200m. And the permission is
granted to the tourists to visit till the Spangmik point, which is about 7 kms
away from the lake. The water is having more content of salt and minerals in it
as there is no outlet to it. This lake is distinctive in nature as it has no
aquatic life.
Changchenmo Range: Changchenmo are the northern ranges of Changthang and are best
known for its splendid beauty. These snow capped mountains wearing the
beautiful blanket of the nature is definitely a must to visit.
Tsomoriri and Tsokar
Lakes: These lakes have the essence of the true beauty of nature
and diversified wildlife. To visit the lakes you will have to visit the Rupshu
Valley which is the south-eastern part of Leh.
The Tsomoriri Lake is very beautiful and what adds on to its
beauty is the unique habitat of many migratory birds such as Black-necked
Cranes, Bareheaded Geese, Brahminy Ducks and Brown-headed Gulls etc.
While the Tsokar Lake has salt content in its water and is surrounded
by mountains and has a fresh water lake to its south eastern side called
Startsapuk Tso. You will very often find the herds of Kiang, a Tibetian wild
ass, Snow leopard, Lynx, Wolf and Wild Yaks here.
Korzok: It is the only place in Changthang where you will find permanent
settlement of people that is in
Rupshu. It is having a mystic beauty of the nature. Mainly people here do vegetation of Barley and you would be amazed to know that it is one amongst the most Barley cultivating places in the world. When in
Changthang, Korzok is a very beautiful place to visit and the sunsets and sunrises behind the hills are just spectacular.

Changthang is a place where you will find utmost serenity and
peace. The lakes, ranges, fields, habitats of rare birds and animals add on the
fifth star to the place. Over the years Changthang has made its own identity in
the minds and hearts of the tourists, as they categorize the place to be one
amongst the places which is a paradise to a traveler in every sense.
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Changthang turns into a cold desert in the winters where
temperature shall even fall to -5 to -10 degrees in the month of April.
However, the best time to visit Changthang is between May to December.
