Origin of the temple
It is believed that the temple
has its origin some 250 years back and is it also said that Goddess Tara was
brought all the way from West Bengal to Himachal Pradesh. It is believed in one
incident, Maa Tara with hanumana appeared in front of Raja Bhupendra Sen who was
out in the forest for hunting. Maa Tara kept her desire that she should be
available for general public so that they can pray and since then, Raja offered
land and a temple was built in name of Maa Tara. Inside the temple a wooden
idol was installed. For this process, a grand procession was organized in which
the idol was carried by an elephant named Shankar and even after centuries, the
temple stands on the hill top with the picturesque backdrop of Himalayas and
breathtaking natural splendor.

temples. Few to name are the Chail which is at a distance of about 9 kms,
Viceregal Lodge at a distance of 5.5 kms. Kotkhai Palace, Kufri and Reserve
Forest Sanctuary.

How to Reach Shimla
To reach Shimla is very easy and convenient as one can
access this beautiful hill station by airways, roadways and railways.
By Road one can
reach taking the road to Delhi, Chandigarh, Kalka and other major towns. From
Chandigarh, Pathankot, Ambala and Delhi there are regular bus services for
Shimla.
By Rail: Broad
gauge rail connect to Kalka railway station which is well connected with all
the major cities and states of India.
By Air: Airways
is the most convenient means of transportation and Jubbarhatti airport is the
nearest one located at a distance of 22 kms from Shimla. From here one can hire
local taxi or cab to reach this picturesque hill station and the holy temple of
Maa tara.
