Palampur, One of the Picturesque Hill Stations of Himachal Pradesh


Palampur is a scenic tourist destination in Kangra valley, located in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh. This scenic hill station is a must visit
place while you are on a trip to Himachal Pradesh. Tourism is one of the main aspects of the place as it is abounded with lush green tea gardens and dense pine forests.
Palampur is also globally renowned as a paragliding destination and it also provides easy access to the snow covered mountains for excursions. Other major attractions of this flamboyant place are the primeval temples and the art gallery of the globally renowned artist, Shoba Singh. It is one of the most visited tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh with its popularity ever increasing among the newlyweds, family vacationers and adventure enthusiasts due to the various forms of winter sports provided in this area. Tea Gardens
One of the major attractions of Palampur is its tea gardens that are widely extended on the hilly slopes of the region. The tea plantation was introduced in this region by Dr. Jameson, the Superintendent of Botanical Garden, in the North-West Frontier Province. Due to its favourable climate towards tea production, today the place is globally renowned for its high quality tea leaves. 

Sobha Singh's Art Gallery
The art gallery, located at a distance of about 12 km from Palampur, is one of the chief attractions of the place. As the name suggests, the gallery exhibits some of the class works done by the renowned artist, Sobha Singh. The gallery also showcases Sohni-Mahiwal painting, which dates back to time of 1940s. Other major highlights of the art gallery are the captivating paintings of Sikh Guru and Guru Nanak Dev.

Navgal Khad
Navgal Khad is a favorite picnic destination in the area, located at a distance of about 2 km from the main town of Palampur. A captivating stream that flows through this place and a spell-bounding view of the Dhauladhar ranges makes it a hot spot among the tourists in this region.  

Tashi Jong Monastery
It is another famous religious site of the region. The major attraction of this monastery is its strikingly decorated walls, which reflect the rich Tibetan culture and tradition. The place also holds an interesting collection of Tibetan paintings, articles and artifacts. Within the premises of the monastery, there is also a beautiful garden and a restaurant that serves fine food. 

Best Time to Visit
The place can be visited throughout the year; still the best time to visit the destination is from September to June. Palampur experiences pleasant climate during the summer season and a chilly weather during the winter season. So you can visit the place as according to your convenience.

Staying is not much of a problem in Palampur, as it is dotted with several budget and luxury class hotels. These hotels are facilitated with almost all the modern day amenities to ensure a comfortable stay for the visitors while touring in this region. 

How to Reach
By Air: The nearest airport to the place is Gaggal airport in Kangra, located at a distance of about 50 km. The airport conducts regular flights to Delhi. Taxi services are available outside the airport to get to Palampur.

By Rail: The closest major railway head to the place is Pathankot, located at a distance of about 112 km. Regular bus and taxi services are available from Pathankot that will get you to Palampur. 

By Road: The place is well connected with major cities within the state and other parts of the country. Regular private and public bus services are available from the places like Dharamsala (35 km), Baijnath (16 km), Kangra (40 km), Shimla (235 km), Delhi (493km) etc.
